Good News for the Mader Familias

Well, today we spent all day in the car. yes another visit to the Neurosurgeon in Greenville, Dr. Jones. Here it is, the pain that I have been dealing with still, is not unexpected, nor is it anything from the disc that remains herniated and wasn't addressed surgically. Apparently I am somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of patient healing that goes from absolutely no pain after surgery or ever again ( why ,oh why could I not have fallen into that category???), to months of lingering pain and slow nerve healing. It has been 3 months since my discectomy/foramenotomy and I guess I can expect to improve over the next 3 to 6 months. Finally though, today the ban on lifting was lifted and I am allowed to do most anything that I want. This means that I carried Evelyn in my arms today for the first time in months, that made us both happy. I am going to be sore and actually have a bit of increased pain as I increase activity and all of those poor abused muscles and nerves get used to being in use again. Am I sore tonight from carrying Ev and having a pillow fight with her? YES. Do I care? NOPE. I feel like , now maybe I can start to get on track with my life again. The pain that I have been living with for so long has really done a number on me and my family. I am ready to move beyond it.
On a side note... Evelyn took Drew the Tiny Pink Pig along with us today to see Dr Jones. Well as soon as Dr Jones found out that Ev brought Drew to see him, Drew was given an official once over by North Carolina's premiere Neurosurgeon. Yes, Dr Jones is as nice as he is capable. Evelyn loved every minute of it and even broke her usual stony silence with strangers to answer questions about fevers and such.
Here I can hear many of you saying why take a 3 yr old to an appointment with a neurosurgeon?- answer= because I would never be forgiven if she had to miss anything vaguely medical. This is a kid who went in and watched her Grandpa get a surgical drain removed from his abdomen and never batted an eye! OH- and how did I know that she could handle the drain removal? Because she had insisted on watching and assisting with his dressing changes for two weeks. Seriously every warm bodied creature in this house gets thorough check ups at least twice a week, she even has a real stethoscope AND she can say "sphygmomonometer".
