I always do some deep cleaning on these kinds of days so after we got up, read three books, had a little snuggle and breakfast, I geared up and went to work. Bean started playing about me and around the house so, all was well. Then about 30 minutes later, Bean looked at me and says (now let me say this whole time we were talking and joking so she was NOT being ignored), " Mama I'm just going up to my room". I tell her okay and to let me know if she needs anything. Well, 20 minutes later, I was completely engrossed in cleaning the keyboard for the computer, I realize that she is quiet up there and that I can hear sniffling.
I creeped up the steps and looked into her room. The sight I saw twisted my heart into a pretzyl. Bean was standing at her window, the one with all of the stuffed animals, she was holding her Pony and she was watching the rain and quietly weeping. I went into her room , picked her up and started rocking her and trying to figure out why she was crying. The nearest that I can figure is.... that it was just the rain making her sad! She wasn't upset about anything particular- she finally said "it's all this rain, I just don't know".
I launched "Operation Cheer Up The Bean". This included a complete halt of all and any forward motion on the cleaning front, a Brunch of Mama's Super Duper Rainy Day French Toast that Bean helped make, a late morning puzzle marathon, and then general silliness. Sometime during the festivities, the rain stopped and the sun came out a bit but I like to think that it was her Mama's intervention that helped Bean out of her slump. It's funny to me that a three year old can be affected by the rain,I mean I get a bit sad on rainy days (thus the weird cleaning) but I never expected to see a little one made sad by a rainy day.
So here are a couple of pics of Bean eating her French Toast......
We will have some Valentine's stuff a bit later on today.
